Mother tongue

Every spring, the youngest members of the Romanian community from the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbia, gather to recite poems in their mother tongue.
‘Please encourage the children to recite, because they are the future actors and cultural activists’ – said Anişoara Ţăran, president of the National Romanian Council’s Department for Education.
This year 70 children and a few adults competed at the Romanian school in Uzdin, many of them locals, but also from the neighboring villages and from Romania.
Proud parents watched they child reciting from classic Romanian poets like Mihai Eminescu, George Coşbuc, while taking pictures and recording them.
Romanian language regional press reported from the event, the winners received certificates and all the participants were invited to a dinner at the Orthodox parish.
