Hungarian all around the world commemorated on the 4th of June 100 years from the signing of the Treaty of Trianon, which ended Word War I.
The
defeated Kingdom of Hungary lost two thirds of its territory, which is
remembered a national tragedy.
Church
bells rang for 100 second and local communities organized vigils.
In
the city of Pecica, close to the actual Hungarian-Romanian border, the local
Hungarian
Association for the Preservation of Traditions held an event with members of
the local Hungarian folk dance group and of the Catholic parish.
They
gathered in the yard of a century-old house, which they plan to restore and
transform into a cultural center for the local Hungarian community.
Respecting
the of the restrictions caused by the pandemic, it was hold outside, with a
limited number of participants and a rain shower interrupted it shortly after
it started.
After
the storm has passed, the participants – from little children to elders –
listened to a short speech and a poem, prayed and lit a fire in the yard, to
say that they are here to stay for the generations to come.
